Biological treatment

This form of therapy helps strengthen the body's immune system.

The treatment is carried out with the patient being connected to a machine via a vein in either arm.
The machine circulates the patient's blood. During this process 80 to 100 ml of blood is taken for further cultivation.

The treatment takes approx. 1 hour and you may experience fatigue afterwards.

The blood then undergoes the cultivation process for the next 10 days. The cells in the blood which will help to fight cancer cells (CIK – cytokine induced killer) are multiplied during the cultivation.

When the patient’s blood has been already cultivated, the blood is given back to the patient in the period of 2 days.

The blood may be given back in 2 ways - either locally (directly to the tumor by the artery) or through the drip.

When the blood must be given locally, the doctors give local anesthetic and insert a thin tube through the artery in the leg and with the help of x-ray they find the vein leading to the tumor or metastases. Here the cultivated blood is given directly into the tumor. The operation takes approx. 45 minutes.

Once the operation has been finished, the blood vessel (artery) will not be sewn together, but it must be under pressure for 6 hours and the patient is not allowed to get out of bed for 12 hours.

Once the patient has undergone this operation, he/she has to stay in hospital overnight.
