Cyberknife
Cyber Knife is a special form of very advanced radiation beams.It is a relatively new invention and does not exist in many countries yet. In China there are four of this kind: one of which can be found in Tianjin.  The essence of this form of treatment is that the beam head moves around in
different positions so the tumor or
metastases are affected from all angles
without destroying the healthy tissue or
other parts of the body.
Apart from a PET-CT scan, a special computer program is used that controls
how much, how long and in what position
Cyber Knife has to work.
During the treatment, the patient will have to lie in a special made form.
When the treatment is planned, it will be estimated how many treatments will be given.  For example, if doctors estimate to use 100 units in total, this should be distributed over a number of treatments. The more treatments with smaller doses, the better. But there is also the economic side of this treatment. A Cyber Knife treatment costs 28,000 RMB for the first treatment and 6000 RMB per subsequent treatment. A typical Cyber Knife treatment takes 6 to 10 times.
The entire reading is under constant surveillance with the use of 4 cameras. The doctors observe the entire process from the control room.
During the Cyber Knife treatment there will be calm and relaxing music, you can even have the music you would like to listen to.
This may be carried on IPod and be connected to the hospital radio.
