Bone Cement
Patients with bone cancer would have great benefit from this form of treatment. Bones affected by cancer can be very porous and easy to crumble or break. Doctors make a hole in the bone and spray the substance into the bone. The cement is a 2 component material. By mixing it develops temperature up to 70 degrees Celsius. When the substance is injected into the bone, it will not only strengthen the bone but it could also help to beat cancer cells to death because they cannot withstand such high temperatures. The operation is carried out by doctors with the use of x-ray. They make a hole in the bone with hammer and chisel. The operation takes place under local anesthesia and is not performed under general anaesthesia because the doctors must always have contact with patients. The operation takes approx. 1 to 1 ½ hours and the patient is allowed to move freely afterwards. ![]() |
